There will be two Alfa flagships that make part of the Alfa project HCST:
-The first that we will see towards the end of 2006, hitting the market in the first months of 2007, is the so called big Sportwagon a street focused sport 4,9meter cross over that will be 4wd only even though with major torque in the rear wheels...a concept similar to Maserati's Kubang but even more street focused.....
-The second is the so called transaxle RWD (168)Berlina Sportiva the real Alfa flagship a 5meter F-segment 4door coupe' to compete with A8,7reiheS-Klasse,Xj and Quattroporte......that may not have a traditional 3volume design but a second volume similar to the Opel's Insignia project with different proportions...because Alfa will have a major distance between the passenger compartment and the front wheels due to the mid-front position of the engine like 612 Scaglietti and the new Maserati Quattroporte, the front overhang will be extremely short but the rear overhang will be longer than that seen on Opel Insignia in order to have more space for baggage due to the transaxle position of the gearbox that steals space...
The new alfa 168/Berlina Sportiva will be presented in spring 2007 and hit the markets between June and october 2007.
Both the Alfa flagships will use a floorpan derived from the new 158/Giulia called Premium that is modular(dualframe)....The wheelbase is 3meter long instead of the 2,8m of the 158/Giulia.....The chassis will be innovative and will use multisplit architecture.....a new technology that combines new generation dualframe floorpans to spaceframe superior construction and gives major styling opportunities.....for very different styling in cars that share the same mechanical base....
These cars will use the new Uniair electronic valve control camless technology in their engine lineup.....
The big Sportwagon will have a lineup of engine from 215-400hp traditional or 240-450hp Uniair from 2,5-4,3lt plus in 2008 a GTA Autodelta V8compressore 550hp version.....
The 168/Berlina Sportiva will have a lineup of Uniair engines from 3,2-5,8lt and from 280hp to 600hp for the 2008 V12 GTA Autodelta.....
