A 711M block can be 1700, most likely you also have bigger valves hence the work on the pistons.
For me it's just a carb problem, and about the advance timing set it at 25° at 5000rpm and if you don't have pincking you can go to 30° at 5000rpm. This is much better than setting the advance at idle.
